Thanks for popping by and not really reading the post. I gave three solutions for PC users. I'm a PC user for goodness sake. The problem, as you so completely ignored, is how difficult it is to uninstall the software.

Re: Killing Off Antivirus

For Christ sake, why is it that every time someone has a gripe about a Windows based machine it has to end with "buy a Mac"? Guess what, Norton is just as big of a pain on a Mac. People are writing virus for Macs. It is not the God system. It doesn't even have 9% of the computer market share (http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/...)
Uninstall the program, find something better, and move on. If that is the least of your problems; consider yourself lucky.

Re: Black Kids - Hurricane Jane (The Twelves Remix)

haven't heard the remix yet but i'm loving the new cd for sure!

Re: Easy Mozy Off-Site Back-Ups

In order for you to be able to share files, or access them through a web browser, it means your files have to be decrypted. I'd perfer not to send my personal files to a company that has the ability to access my files by decrypting them. With all the security threats lately such as divShare and Heise Security there is no way I'd want my files available to hackers. I'd perfer to stay with a company like Carbonite, where the only way to decrypt your files is through the client on your computer. Sorry Memopal, but there are too many issues with start-ups these days to risk it.

Re: Easy Mozy Off-Site Back-Ups

I discovered a Memopal (www.memopal.com) "cutting edge solution for online
backup"

They merged online backup, online storage and file sharing services into one product.

If you try this service you will notice that (contrary to most competitors):
- You can access your files in (true) real time with a web browser
- They really offer 250 GB (some competitors offer a fake unlimited web
space, they say "fair use")
- You can share a file or many files with the 1-click-share functionality
- Some of your files will be uploaded very very fast (turboupload)
- The service and website are in 10 different languages

I've also found two useful guide to online backup on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Online_backup

Re: Killing Off Antivirus

I agree completely as I had Norton 360 on one of my PC's and it was an absolute pain to remove and I hadn't realized how slow the PC had become until it was gone! Plus 360 is sold as a simple user friendly solution that does it all for you with little knowledge required and in that read....we load it all on for you, configure it automatically then make it impossible to remove unless you know what your doing!

Re: Killing Off Antivirus

Excellent post - and I agree with you. I have recently looked at Kaspersky and was horrified by the performance hit the PC took. I ended up installing Avira as a "good enough" solution.

I have seen a machine pre-installed with Norton where it could not be removed before. Not nice.

Re: Killing Off Antivirus

...and Norton are definitely not the only culprits!

Re: Killing Off Antivirus

What is worrying is this is sold as a benefit for your PC.
